In last night’s prime-time top-10 matchup, the Baylor Lady Bears defeated the top-ranked UConn Huskies by an impressive 16 points. Our Megan Gauer was live at the XL Center, including this post game recap:
Here are some of the key stats that shaped the game last night:
Heading into the game, Baylor had scored under 14 percent of their points from beyond the arc. Last night, they scored 28 percent of their 74 points from three.
Te’a Cooper led the way for the Bears with a game high 27 points, including four triples. Cooper scored or assisted on 48 percent of Baylor’s made field goals.
UConn shot a season low 29 percent from the floor. Three players - Christyn Williams, Megan Walker and Crystal Dangerfield - combined for 55 of UConn’s 58 points.
Baylor edged out UConn on the boards, 44-43. But the Huskies actually did a better job on the glass, rebounding 33 percent of their own misses and 74 percent of Baylor’s.
Baylor had 18 assists on 27 made field goals, for an assisted shot rate of 67 percent. UConn, in contrast, had just 8 assists all game and an assisted shot rate of 40 percent.
Both teams struggled offensively in the final quarter, but UConn went ice cold. The Huskies hit just 2 of their 18 fourth quarter attempts. They scored 0.1 points per play in the final 10 minutes.
