Hello and welcome to the midway point of the 2020 WNBA season!
We cannot believe it, either, but six teams have already played 11 games apiece on their 22-game schedule and the other six have played 10 games.
Last week, more young players, including rookie point guard Crystal Dangerfield (Minnesota) and second-year guard Jackie Young (Las Vegas), stepped up for top teams. Connecticut righted the ship by winning three of four games, and Seattle won four games by at least 18 points to extend its winning streak to eight games. And in one of the top scoring duels of the week, Dallas guard Arike Ogunbowale had 33 points and Phoenix center Brittney Griner had 29 in a 95-89 Dallas win on Sunday. (That performance helped Ogunbowale finish the week with the top scoring average in the league at 21.5 points per game.)
Seattle remained atop the standings, but two new teams have climbed into the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. Los Angeles and Connecticut had the biggest jumps of the week, rising two spots each, while Chicago fell three rungs on the ladder after going 2-2.
In our points-based ranking system, each team gets 1,200 points for a first-place vote, 1,100 for second place, and so forth, and then we take the average for the overall ranking. This week’s poll covers games through Sunday, August 16.
