With teams being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, we're here with all the information as eyes turn towards the offseason and preparing for 2024
Good lord, is it awful! I didn't like it from the start, and really don't like it now. She was hyped as a former All-Star, but hasn't been a factor in several years. The kind of move that inspires little confidence in the front office...
I think it was a desperate swing at a point where not many solid FAs were left. I was hoping for Sykes last year, and they tried but lost to the Mystics. I do think it’s better than the $160 for 3 years they gave Mercedes (in ‘22) that one was a real head scratcher for me…
In an elimination game, the Storm grabbed a free throw miss with 15 seconds to go, down 5. No urgency from the players to try and get a quick score, hope for a steal or quick foul. Jewell Loyd seen easily frustrated by her teammates. She may elect to sign with a team that has more heart.
Yeah, I commented on the same moment on Twitter - https://twitter.com/RichardCohen1/status/1695956222208344552?s=20 . It was strange, although you could understand why they felt deflated after the 4th-quarter collapse. Hopefully that was just a particularly bad moment.
I wonder how much that lies at Quinn’s feet? My wife feels strongly that Quinn’s chill demeanor is as much a liability as an asset. Does she ever get fired up? I also wonder, more generally, whether she is an attractant or deterrent for free agents?
It was bizarre to be sure but it seemed like Jordan didn't realize or know time/score. Sami didn't look entirely urgent either pushing the ball up the floor. Weird play
It's hard to project, both because we don't know where they'll fall 1-4, and we don't know who'll enter the draft or stay for another year. Best case, they get Caitlin Clark (with Paige Bueckers and Cameron Brink among other very high-end theoretical possibilities). But it could easily end up being another Horston-level project rather than an immediate game-changer.
Do you see any top WNCAA players forgoing an extra year of NIL money for the W at this point? Caitlin, Paige, Cam, Angel all stand to make high 6 figs staying in college. Clearly, it would see, financial incentive lends to staying in the college ranks for now.
Angel, Aaliyah, Hailey - depends who forgoes their Covid Year. If Jewell goes, they definitely need a guard. If Jewell stays, I see a frontcourt selection as their top pick.
Richard: Love your work and always look forward to your columns. Always informative, well-thought out, and tastefully snarky!
That contract to Nurse is a disaster.

Although I like her, and she's been dealing with constant injuries, that Russell ink looking like an albotross too

I think your wife and mine must be talking...

Not only was there zero sense of urgency, it didn't even look like the players had a clue...
Who might they draft?
