Regarding the unassisted 3 stat, am I right to assume, this applies to all situations where the players brought the ball from the backcourt to the front court. (Does it include a ball coming off a rebound from a teammate or a throw-in from out of bounds? What about a throw in from the front court?). No wonder Caitlin had 67 makes considering she's a great shooter with great range. But also Iowa's style of play allows her to take that shot. That would never fly at other schools including UConn - Geno wants shooters to shoot but within an offensive flow.
Hi Josh - Thanks for the question. The unassisted threes stat counts the number of 3-pointers where no player is credited with an assist. If the statistician awards an assist to a player in any of the situations you have outlined (throw-in from out of bounds sounds like the most likely scenario where a player would get an assist), then those made threes would not be included in the number of unassisted threes. It's fascinating to think about how Clark would fit in at other programs - I have a hunch they might give her more freedom than most to operate outside a given offensive system.
I don't think there's any reason to believe that AP voters pay less attention to games now than in the past. With all the player movement in the transfer portal, it's a difficult task to evaluate teams before the season starts (i.e., teams with a lot of newer players take more time to gel), which causes a lot of movement in the polls early on. So, that's part of what we're seeing, but the other part is that the talent gap between, say, No. 1 and No. 25, has narrowed.
i say this confidently as someone who has had my work featured in the ap. you donโt get anything additional for the hours that come with the work you did. so by deductive reasoning i have come to the conclusion theyโre just not watching the games. when it first started it was a labor of love. in this age, if theyโre covering womenโs basketball if theyโre being paid at all, they likely have other responsibilities that are higher up on the priority list. i also understand why nobody wants to speak on it either.
Thank you for another informative article on

does that mean that thereโs parity or does that mean that the ap voters donโt watch the games?
my answer is indubitably.
