It was odd to me that the Sky extended Elizabeth Williams. Though that makes for a very strong three-player power forward/post rotation, it also seems redundant for a team desperate for outside shooting. Maybe the plan is to move Williams for a shooter, which would make sense since none of the non-Bueckers high draft picks can shoot very well, but still ...

Carter may be the key to it all. She missed a lot of games late, due to "illness," which may indeed be true. If so, then starting her for 40 games will give TSpoon something to work with -- though I'd be tempted to zone up, stop Carter's penetration and watch Lindsey Allen miss threes.

EW is a vet to help develop Reese and Cardoso. Plus it helps inch them closer to the salary cap minimum. They can re-sign Bryanna Maxwell( their 2nd rounder from last year).

The draft has plenty of shooters- Fudd, Citron, Emily Ryan, Paopao, Georgia Amoore. Just have to get good value.

They honestly need to try to get a scoring vet and continue developing MO, Angel and KC to help CC out

Fudd shot 28% from three last year; Citron 34%; Ryan is returning to Iowa State; Amoore is tiny, a 33% shooter and vastly overrrated. For me, a shooter should hit 40% in college to be expected to be effective in the W.

You might be right about Williams helping Cardoso and Reese, but it's also a tricky situation. The better she makes them, the less she plays; the less she plays, the less impressive her stats, and thus her earning power goes down. Not saying she won't help them out, but I would think she wants to play.

The Williams extension looks great for Chicago to me. Dirt cheap for a veteran of her caliber, knows she's behind Reese/Cardoso in the pecking order but wanted to sign anyway, non-guaranteed so there's virtually no risk, and you're going to need more than two posts anyway. Also, if she's healthy, a wildly tradeable deal at some point next year to a contender who needs post help.

From Williams's perspective I presume she likes Chicago, got 30k immediately in the time-off bonus, and an extra year under contract without having to prove to anyone that she's recovered from he injury. I like it more for them than her, but I at least get it from her side.

Good points as always ... if she's happy with her role, it's a win.

Plus she and the remaining vets plan to workout with Angel in the offseason. So already an upgrade over the previous locker room leadership.

Fudd was hurt, Citron is a 45/40/90 player, Emily is in her last year. Amoore can playmaker and shoot. More than a few 5'5 players have succeeded. Emily can play either guard spot, play d, pass and shoot with solid size.

The best shooters in the w don't shoot 40 percent from 3.

Richard, how do the signed players vs. the restricted and unrestricted players affect each team's decision whom to protect for the expansion draft?

We don't have an official set of rules for the expansion draft yet, but players under contract and RFAs will be selectable so would both have to be protected. The status won't change with a new team, so maybe you wouldn't protect an RFA you think will get more expensive than you're willing to match, or a signed player who's overpaid so you wouldn't mind getting rid of. The expansion team (by CBA rule) will also be allowed to select one UFA and then instantly core them (so it has to be a UFA who can be legally cored). So if you want to make sure there's no chance of them being taken, you'd have to protect tham as well.

All stated, again, with the caveat that the league are yet to say exactly what this year's expansion draft rules are going to be.
