Great points about comparisons with the Comets. Two additional things to consider:

1) The shot clock was 30 seconds up until 2004 or so.

2) The league was terrible its first few years. The ABL had some of the top players, and the quality of coaching was, kindly, abysmal. And players weren't aiming for a WNBA career in the '90s, and weren't really preparing themselves to play at that level.

The Comets were loaded, but I saw them play a lot. They had four really good players and nothing else. Put them up against the Aces and it would be a great series but the sophistication of the league now and the overall quality of play would favor Las Vegas.

Good article.

You correctly noted that Chelsea Gray leads the Aces' offense. However, Gray might be the reason a three-peat will be difficult. Just how serious was the injury suffered and what/how long is the rehabilitation period? That will make a big difference. Pulling out one game is one thing. Going a whole season?
