Love this, Calvin! My only concern would be that it weighs a tough schedule a bit too much, but that's probably a good problem to have since it's tough to ever truly get over the mental leap of just looking at wins and losses. Like you said, one tool out of many!
Oh for sure! My worry is more along the lines of “what more could UConn have done” by this metric. I think they might be overly dinged for just not having a tough schedule. Which, you know, maybe is fair—bring on more challenges and you’ll be rewarded
That's definitely a valid point. UConn is a great example of why I put "win percentage above bubble" in here as well. They haven't played enough games to accumulate straight wins above bubble, plus you're right about "what more could they have done?" since their easier scheduled isn't entirely their fault (they had some good games scheduled that got canceled and didn't get made up). There is a tradeoff for having a higher WAB ceiling by playing a tougher schedule vs having a lower ceiling but a much easier time achieving that ceiling.
